ABOUT ME

My Story

I am a 24 year old amateur triathlete attempting to make it big.  My journey up to this point has been a bit of an adventure, with many twists, turns and roadblocks.

I grew up in Red Deer, Alberta spending the majority of my childhood swimming competitively.  In high school I decided to switch my focus to x-country and track.  I experienced initial success but began to succumb to ankle and knee injuries.  The physiotherapist clinic I frequented shared their building with a Crossfit gym.  It was recommended that I add a strength regime to my training (this is important later on in my story).

At the same time, a family friend suggested that I should look into racing triathlons.  Despite being a horrible cyclist, I decided to compete in the Canadian junior elite circuit.  It was a steep learning curve.  I would exit the water with the lead pack, drop down to last place during the bike and try to pass as many girls as possible in the run. Oddly enough, I loved it.

After high school I completed the first two years of my undergrad at Red Deer College.  During this time, I joined the x-country and track team.  Still competing in triathlon, training took a backseat to running, Crossfit and Olympic weightlifting. I was now a coach at my gym and a part of their competition team.

In 2014, I transferred to the UofC.  Attempting to balance x-country, triathlon, Crossfit and school was becoming too hard.  I decided to put all my energy into one sport.  Triathlon won.  I made one of the best decisions of my life and joined the Kronos Triathlon Club.  Unfortunately my first three seasons were extremely underwhelming, fraught with injury and frustration.  Positive note? I was able to complete my Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology with Distinction.

Thanks to my amazing coaches, Lisa Mensink and Kyle Jensen, my sports doctor Dr. Robinson, and my chiropractor Dr. Dick, I am finally injury free. My 2017 season I had a major breakthrough and was able to finish on the podium at all of my races.  I'm going into the 2018 season with some hefty placement and time goals.  This will be also be my last season before starting a Masters of Science in Physiotherapy.  My hope is to balance my studies with being an elite athlete.  Follow my journey as I continue to navigate my way through this crazy sport.
